ADR Pulsar

ADR Pulsar

Pulsar is the latest portable traffic data recorder from Oriux, an industry leader for decades. The Oriux pedigree guarantees that Pulsar will deliver years of reliable, highly accurate performance. Pulsar’s reliability is achieved by combining a rugged, lightweight, single-piece aluminum housing with encapsulated electronics and a lithium battery. The advanced electronics, coupled with a highly refined data processing algorithm, enable study accuracy comparable to the Oriux ADR1000, the ‘workhorse’ of the traffic industry.

Rugged, Portable Traffic Data Recorder

The Oriux ADR Pulsar is the latest addition to Oriux’s line of portable traffic data recorders. It builds on decades of industry leadership and innovation. Designed for durability, accuracy, as well as ease of use, Pulsar combines rugged construction with advanced technology to deliver years of dependable performance in the field. Encased in a lightweight, single-piece aluminum housing, Pulsar features encapsulated electronics and a long-life lithium battery, ensuring resilience under demanding conditions and offering a minimum of 5 years of operation without recharging.

Accurate Data Collection

At the core of the ADR Pulsar is an advanced data processing algorithm, refined to deliver study accuracy that rivals the renowned Oriux ADR-1000. Furthermore, it is widely regarded as the “workhorse” of the traffic monitoring industry. Pulsar collects time-stamped event data with precision, thus enabling the generation of reliable traffic studies based on volume, classification, and speed.

Designed for Ease of Use

ADR Pulsar is engineered with field usability in mind. Its custom-designed tube nozzles securely accept both standard and mini road tubes. In contrast, the generous spacing around the nozzle area makes installation and removal quick and easy—even with gloves or tools. This thoughtful design reduces setup time and simplifies roadside deployment.

Seamless USB Connectivity

A built-in USB port allows for straightforward communication with Windows-based PCs using any standard USB cable. Through this connection, users can:
  • Transfer collected traffic study data;
  • Perform device setup;
  • Monitor Pulsar’s operation.
The USB port is protected by an easy-to-use rubber seal, is weather-resistant, and features gold-plated contacts for reliable, long-term performance—even in harsh outdoor conditions.

Powerful and User-Friendly Software

Collected data is stored as time-stamped events within the compact Pulsar device. Oriux’s Pulsar Reporter software processes this data to generate a variety of traffic studies, including vehicle volume, axle-based classification, and speed analysis. This capability makes Pulsar an excellent choice for road tube-based studies that require high accuracy without the complexity or cost of more elaborate systems.

The Smart Choice for Traffic Studies

If you need a portable, accurate, and easy-to-use solution for vehicle data collection, the Oriux Pulsar offers a cost-effective alternative without compromising performance. It’s ideal for agencies and consultants conducting temporary traffic counts or classification surveys with the reliability that only Oriux can provide.

Enhanced Field Capability with Street-Link

The USB port on the Oriux Pulsar is also compatible with Oriux’s Street-Link, an optional rugged, handheld accessory designed specifically for field use. With its intuitive interface and durable construction, Street-Link makes on-site operations faster and easier. Technicians can quickly monitor road tube functionality, check Pulsar memory and battery levels, and—thanks to the built-in GPS—access Google Maps directly, load GPS coordinates, and synchronize GPS time to the Pulsar at each study location with the push of a single button. This functionality is especially helpful for maintaining organized and geo-referenced traffic study records. The Pulsar is compatible with the optional Oriux Street-Link accessory, which facilitates:
  • One-button synchronization to GPS location as well as time,
  • Easy in-field monitoring of vehicle detection via road tubes,
  • Quick battery and memory checks in the field.

Pulsar Reporter Software: Simple, Smart, and Powerful

The Pulsar Reporter Software, included free with the device, was developed to streamline the post-processing of traffic study data. Whether conducting a basic single-tube volume study or a more complex two-tube classification and speed study, the software guides users through the report setup with just a few simple parameters. Pulsar Reporter takes care of the rest, automatically generating the appropriate reports with professional formatting. It also allows users to select and extract subsets of stored data, creating unique study files tailored to specific needs. The Pulsar Reporter software is PC-based and compatible with Windows 7 and later versions. It features a simple, intuitive graphical user interface designed to make operation straightforward for users of all experience levels.

Precision Data Recording

The Pulsar records time-stamped event data, such as wheel strikes on road tubes, with a processing precision of 30.5 microseconds. It supports one or two road tube inputs using custom “stepped diameter,” barbless nozzles that securely accept standard 3/16” ID, ¼” ID, or mini road tubes. The generous spacing around the nozzles facilitates easy installation as well as removal, even while wearing gloves or using tools. The device supports tube spacing as close as 2 feet. Pulsar Reporter offers a suite of useful features designed to enhance both data interpretation as well as presentation:
  • Custom graphing tools for visualizing traffic patterns;
  • Detailed “per vehicle” listings for in-depth analysis;
  • Support for importing custom images to personalize report headers.
The software includes graphics output features for visualizing data results. In addition, study results can be exported in a variety of formats, including PDF, XLS, CSV, or Oriux PRN. This makes it easy to transfer data for use in other traffic analysis or asset management systems.

Memory and Data Capacity

Equipped with fully encapsulated electronics, the Pulsar can store event data for over 1 million vehicles. The memory is erasable and reusable with no limit on the number of traffic studies stored simultaneously. This allows for unlimited use without requiring additional hardware upgrades.

Power and Security Features

For security, the device includes two large (2-inch long) oval openings. They are designed to accommodate chains, cables, or locks (sold separately), allowing the unit to be securely fastened during field deployments.

Classification Schemes

Vehicle classification follows the FHWA Scheme “F” by default. In addition, users can also choose from user-selectable classification schemes to fit project requirements.

Compact, Capable, and Accurate

Whether you’re seeking a lightweight solution for accurate vehicle classification and speed studies or need a more advanced alternative to basic tally counters, the Oriux ADR Pulsar delivers. Its combination of robust hardware, user-friendly software, and compatibility with field tools like Street-Link makes it the ideal choice for agencies and contractors looking for high performance in a compact, affordable package.
